Notice from OBYC Board of Governors Regarding Construction at 19 East Chadwick
Dear Members,
At a Special Meeting of the Board of Governors on September 23, 2025, the Board voted to suspend the prior construction approval for 19 East Chadwick. This action was taken after a careful review determined the approval was issued in error and did not comply with the Club’s By-Laws and Rules. The property owner has been notified that a revised application, in full compliance with current requirements, must be submitted before work can proceed.
The Board wishes to thank all members who took the time to share their thoughts and concerns. We especially appreciate those who did so in a civil and constructive manner — your engagement is vital to maintaining a strong community.
We would also like to address and clarify a few circulating rumors:
- Allan May was never a member of the Board of Governors. He served as the outgoing Improvements Coordinator, a staff/committee role, not as a Governor.
- The Board has full confidence that its Governors act in good faith and with the best interests of the community in mind. While individual Governors may also hold professional roles outside the Club, Board decisions are made collectively and in accordance with our By-Laws and Rules. When a potential conflict of interest arises, the matter is addressed through appropriate disclosure and recusal to ensure fairness and integrity in the decision-making process.
Looking ahead, the Board is committed to improving our processes:
- We will refine our internal review procedures to ensure greater thoroughness and consistency in construction approvals.
- We will continue to refine the language of our Rules and By-Laws to reduce the possibility of confusion or misinterpretation.
Thank you for your continued trust and participation in our community governance.
Sincerely,
Board of Governors
